Here we go ! The first round of the 30th International tournament of Cappelle-la-Grande has started !
603 players, coming from 49 different countries, over 150 titled players have decided to meet (from the 1st until the 8th of March) at the Palais des Arts et Loisirs in Cappelle-la-Grande, with different goals but with the same passion !
The first round, usually the warm-up round, is already a complicated round, with several clashes between titled players .
Few surprises on the first 15 tables, the favorite of the tournament, the Chinese GM Ding Liren (2717) won quickly against the Russian GM Arkadij Vul ( 2346 ). The Venezuelan GM Eduardo Iturrizaga (2645), one of the top seeds, won a great game at the expense of the German GMF Hoolt Sarah (2346) (see commentary by Chess Anyone's team) .
Many draws from table 15 and onwards, but one can note the bad start of the strong French GM Matthieu Cornette (2566), who lost to MF Franco-Argentinian Damian Justo (2315). Bulgarian IM Nikolai Milchev (2469) lors against the Polish Lukasz Jarmula (2225) and Brazilian IM Yago Santiago (2446) did the same against GMF Kryvoruchko Ukrainian Vita (2201).
