30th open de Cappelle-la-Grande - Highlights of round 4
3 players in the lead after this 5th round !
No more 100% player after this round.
Indian GM Ganguly (2623) couldn’t make more than a draw against his countrymate Gupta (2630) in a very fighting Scottisch game.
He is joined in the lead by the Brazilian GM Alexandr Fier (2595) who won with Black against Frenchman Sebastien Mazé (2545) and Polish GM Kacper Piorun (2570) who won convincingly with black pieces against the top seed and World N°29, Ding Liren (2717) !
No more victories in the 3 others games at 3.5/4 but we could witness very sharp and tense games as Vovk-Heberla (game of the day analyzed by Chess Anyone team) .
Among the 3/4 clashes, we can point out the missed opportunity of the Venezuelan GM Eduardo Iturrizaga to get closer to the lead, drawing with White against Gao Rui (2468) after obtaining a winning position, Paul Velten’s solid draw against the strong Indian GM Parimarjan Negi (2638) and the surprising draw of the young Victor Dumas (2077) against experienced GM Georgy Timoschenko (2531).
So we have 3 players in the lead with 4.5/5 (Ganguly, Fier and Piorun) purchased by a 26 players pack at 4/5 consisting of 24 GMs and the surprising young Russian MF Pavel Martynov (2352) with a 2712 performance !
See you tomorrow for an exciting 6th round!
